Top Ten Finish for Mellenberndt 09/22/2008
USAC Sprint Car driver Bret Mellenberndt out of Sioux Falls, SD takes the Sioux City Truck & Trailer WolfWeld Chassis to Gas City I-69 Speedway this past Friday and adds yet another top ten finish to the books. Bret started on the front row of the heat race to start out the evening and came out with a second which put Bret on the front row of the Main Event. Mellenberndt lead half of the race until a mishap on the speedway sent Bret off the racetrack and back to the tenth position. Bret held his own at tenth to bring home the top ten. “The Sioux City Truck & Trailer WolfWeld Chassis was perfect,” explains Bret, “but once we went off the track, we just weren’t able to advance forward in the remaining laps. It takes time with a new team, but ever since veteran car chief Mike Dutcher along with mechanic Andy Anderson came on board to the Mellenberndt Team, we have seen a lot better finishes. I can keep my head on the driving and the driving alone.” Bret and the gang then traveled to the historic Eldora Speedway the following night to compete in the Four-Crown Nationals. With engine troubles all night, Bret had to run the non-qualifiers race for the attempt of making the heat race, but after running fourth in the transfer spot for over half of the contest, a yellow flag was thrown and Bret’s engine began to worsen. With the engine not running the way it should, Bret decided to pull it in which in turn put an early end to the evening for the Mellenberndt Team. The Mellenberndt Team will be staying out in Indiana this week to attack the engine issues and will be ready to rock for the upcoming event in Jacksonville, Illinois followed by an MSCS show in Haubstadt, Indiana. Shortened Weekend for Mellenberndt09/08/2008
USAC Sprint Car driver Bret Mellenberndt out of Sioux Falls, SD, went to Gas City last Friday for a local non-winged sprint car show. It was a short night for the Mellenberndt Team, starting last in the Heat Race, Bret passed two cars in the first lap, but got tipped over and junked the Sioux City Truck & Trailer WolfWeld Chassis to end the night early. The Mellenberndt Team worked throughout the night getting the new car ready to race for the next show in Lawrenceburg. Running second in the Heat Race, Bret had to pull in because of engine troubles. The team worked hard to find the problem and found that a plugged fuel filter was the cause of the engine mishaps. Bret then had to start towards the rear of the Semi and was able to race his way up to the third position guaranteeing a starting spot for the Main Event. Bret started the Main Event on the inside of the tenth row and powered through the field and brought home a top ten finish for the Sioux City Truck & Trailer WolfWeld Chassis. The scorers for the evening scored Bret in the twelfth spot, but later the corrections were made to put the Mellenberndt Team at 10th. Impressive Weekend for Mellenberndt 09/02/2008
Bret Mellenberndt out of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, takes the team out East to Indiana again this past weekend. To start out the three day series, Bret and the gang traveled to Gas City I-69 Speedway. Bret started in the rear of the Heat Race and drove forward through the field just outside the transfer spot to the 6th position. Mellenberndt then had to run the Semi for one last attempt to make it into the Main Event. Starting 8th, Bret raced forward until a mishap on the racetrack caused him to restart the event in the tail of the field. Mellenberndt put the hammer down to attempt to make the top four transfer, but was only able to pass 10 cars and finish eighth. “Not a bad run,” explains Mellenberndt, “but having to restart the ‘B’ at the tail of the field didn’t help much.” Next up was Lawrenceburg Speedway. Bret started sixth in the heat and moved up one spot just outside of the transfer position. Dominating the Semi, Bret was able to put the Sioux City Truck & Trailer WolfWeld Chassis into that precious Main Event. Starting 18th, Mellenberndt set the car above the cushion and drove around 11 cars to finish in the 7th spot and add another top ten to the record books. For the third night of the series, Bret and the gang traveled to Haubstadt, Indiana for an MSCS show. An impressive 41 cars showed up for the MSCS show at Tri-State Speedway. Bret started 7th in the second of four heat races and raced his way up to the number 2 spot to guarantee him a starting position in the Main Event. Having a nasty start in the Main, set Bret back to the 12th position. Mellenberndt put the elbows up and raced back up to 7th, but then late in the race, Bret jumped the cushion stalling the Sioux City Truck & Trailer WolfWeld Chassis. Restarting the race in the back of the pack, Bret raced up to 14th to finish out the evening. O’Reilly Sprint Bandit Tour for Mellenberndt 08/18/2008
Bret Mellenberndt out of Sioux Falls, SD, travels to Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO, this past week to begin the 6-day race series with the O’Reilly Sprint Bandits. Starting out the week, Mellenberndt and the Team transferred to the Main Event by racing to sixth in both the Heat Race and the Qualifier. Bret finished out the night by putting the Sioux City Truck & Trailer WolfWeld Chassis in the top twenty at 19th. I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, NE, was the next venue on the schedule for the Sprint Bandit Tour. With Mellenberndt being very successful at this particular racetrack in the past, high finishes were certainly to come. Starting the night out in the right direction was what Bret was able to accomplish at I-80, bringing home the number 1 spot in the Heat Race. He then finished 6th in the Qualifier and rounded out the night by racing up to the 14th position. The next night in Oklahoma City, Bret and the gang finished in the top 5 in the Heat Race and just rocked the Qualifier with a 2nd place finish. Starting towards the rear of the lineup in the Main Event, Bret raced his way up to the 7th spot in only three laps until later in the race the brakes failed and sent the Sioux City Truck & Trailer WolfWeld Chassis backwards, but Bret still had a respectable drive as he was able to keep the car in that top twenty and finish out the night in the 18th spot. With half of the races completed in the speed week, it was off to Sapulpa, OK. Bret hammered the Heat Race with a second place finish and made a top 5 effort of fourth in the Qualifier. As Bret was racing in the 7th position in the Main Event, the header broke on the motor and Bret decided to pull in instead of hurting the power plant. Bret was scored in the 16th spot. Next up on the tour was the two day event held in Kansas City. The first of the two day show, Bret finished 4th in the Heat and pulled out 3rd in the Qualifier. Bret finished out the night in the 16th spot. The final day of the O’Reilly Sprint Bandit Tour was for the $10,000. With a brand new motor in the Sioux City Truck & Trailer WolfWeld Chassis Bret finished fourth in the heat and stomped the qualifier by finishing in the top spot. Mellenberndt began the Main Event in the 9th spot and raced his way up to an impressive number 4 position until the right rear tire began to leak sending Mellenberndt backwards through the field and finishing the night at 14th. Mellenberndt finished out the week 12th out of 55 other competitors in the O’Reilly Sprint Bandits season points. Plans are uncertain at this time for the upcoming weekend, but as the year goes on, the Mellenberndt Team has proven that they can run up top, so be sure to keep up with the Team through the website www.bretmellenberndtracing.com as for a top five or even that win, is soon to come! Bret started the night finishing 5th in the Heat Race which allowed him to start the qualifiers from a decent spot. Ending up seventh in the qualifier put Bret and the gang in the back of the Semi. Mellenberndt knew that he had to race hard in this Semi, considering the fact that it was the last chance to make it into the show for the $30,000. From the Back to the Front, Only to Get Spun…08/04/2008
Bret Mellenberndt from Sioux Falls, SD, takes the Sioux City Truck &Trailer WolfWeld Chassis machine to Rock Rapids, IA, this past Friday for a Heartland Racing Association event. The Mellenberndt Team decided to stay home and race this show just to get some quick testing in before the big $30,000 to win event held in Oskaloosa, IA, this coming Tuesday. Bret started the night out right winning the heat race and then starting on the third row of the dash, Bret raced his way up to the number two spot. There was plenty of excitement in the feature for the Mellenberndt Team as he originally started in the fourth row until a caution at the start of the race called for a complete restart in which that allowed Bret to move up one row to attempt the start once again. After a few laps another caution flag dropped which was the cause of a car spinning and Bret clipping him with his rear tire putting a hole in it. Bret pulled into the work area and the Mellenberndt Team was quick to respond in replacing the leaking tire and Bret was able to get back on the track in the 20th position. Within the next 12 laps, Bret put the Sioux City Truck & Trailer WolfWeld Chassis up on the high side and raced his way up to the number one spot with only two laps to go. After the pass for the lead, the second place driver decided to get into the back of the Mellenberndt Machine causing Bret to spin, ending his night. Set aside the spin at the end of the main event, overall, the night was a success. Passing over 27 cars in a single evening is always a respectable drive and with the momentum pulling from the HRA show, you will certainly see Bret at the top of the ranks at the Ultimate Challenge coming up this Tuesday in Oskaloosa, IA. Be sure to keep up with the Mellenberndt Team through the website www.bretmellenberndtracing.com for all the latest news and result updates. New Team Member for the Mellenberndt Racing Team07/28/2008
Mellenberndt Racing out of Sioux Falls, SD brings on a new member to the team to help both in the shop and on the road. Andy Anderson, from Sioux Falls, South Dakota, is very happy to be a part of the Team and looks forward to the many years of working with Bret. Andy raced sprint cars himself the past few years and certainly knows what it takes with the duties of being a full time team member of a sprint car operation. Due to the Race Hauler having some issues, Mellenberndt and the newly hired mechanic, decided to stay around home this past weekend and race at a HRA (Heartland Racing Association) event in Rock Rapids, IA. Bret started on the fourth row of the heat and raced the Sioux City Truck & Trailer WolfWeld Chassis up to the number one spot in the short eight lap shootout. Bret dominated the dash and put the Mellenberndt Team in the Main Event. Originally starting in the fifth row of the Feature, Bret began the race with a car spinning in front of him stopping the Mellenberndt Machine on the racetrack in which Bret had to go to the rear of the field for a complete restart. This time, starting 16th, Bret knew he would have to race hard to get through the field if he wanted to put the Sioux City Truck & Trailer WolfWeld Chassis in the winner’s circle for the fourth time at Rapid Speedway. Throughout the very short 15 lap event, Bret was able to make his way up the field to put him in the number one spot, but while dealing with a mess of lap cars in front of him on the last lap, Mellenberndt spun the car and unfortunately ended the night without the victory. After the show, the Mellenberndt Team realized that a stuck bleeder in the right rear tire was the cause of making the car loose allowing the car to spin towards the end of the feature event. Future plans for the Mellenberndt team is to stick around home one more week to do some testing on the WolfWeld Chassis and get everything ready for the ‘Ultimate Challenge $30,000 to Win’ show held in Oskaloosa, Iowa, coming up Tuesday the 5th of August. Be sure to keep up with Bret and the Gang through his website www.bretmellenberndtracing.com for all the latest news and photo updates. Sprint Week Continued for Mellenberndt Racing07/21/2008
Bret Mellenberndt from Sioux Falls, South Dakota utilized the short three day break in the Indiana Sprint Week to travel back home to get yet another race in. An HRA event was held last Tuesday at the fairgrounds in Sioux Center, IA. Bret started in the fourth row of the heat and raced the Sioux City Truck & Trailer WolfWeld Chassis up to the number two spot to start out the evening. No trophy dash was held for this particular event so is was right off to the Main Event. Bret started the Main in the fifth row and made a last lap pass to put the Mellenberndt Team in the 2nd spot to finish out the evening. Taking the momentum from the HRA show the Mellenberndt Team made the long journey back to Indiana for the finale of the legendary Indiana Sprint Week (ISW). Kamp Motor Speedway in Boswell, Indiana, was next in line for the last three day run of ISW; Bret set 18th quick out of field of 54 with the Sioux City Truck & Trailer WolfWeld Chassis to put him into that crucial top 32 position. Mellenberndt started towards the front of the heat race and with a bad start and a tire going down, Bret fell back to the 8th position, not quite earning a transfer to the Main Event. Bret then had to start the Semi for an attempt to make the show, but a nozzle line in the motor decided to fail, putting an early end to Mellenberndt’s chances of making the Main Event. After Kamp it was all about Bloomington. Mellenberndt and the Team Put the car in the top 32 in the qualifying ranks which gave him a front row start in the heat. Holding off the best in the business, Bret was able to keep the Sioux City Truck & Trailer WolfWeld Chassis up front all ten laps of the heat which sent Mellenberndt directly to the Main Event of the 6th race in the lineup for the USAC Indiana Sprint Week. Bret, still having to start in the rear of the field, raced his way up to the 20th spot in the Main on the narrow racetrack of Bloomington Speedway. After Bloomington, Bret and the gang packed up and headed down to Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Indiana, for one last show to finish out the 21st running of USAC’s Indiana Sprint Week. Mellenberndt put the Sioux City Truck & Trailer WolfWeld Chassis in the number six spot in the heat race, which was just outside of the transfer spot to guarantee him a starting position in the Main Event. Starting in the back of the Semi, Bret raced his way through the field, but with just three laps to go the brakes of the Mellenberndt Machine failed causing Bret to pull off and end his chances to a start in the finale of Sprint Week. Overall it was a good week for the Mellenberndt Team. With the help of Danny Drinan, Bret announced that the experience earned from the week is too much to put a price on, and will be more than ready for the 22nd running of ISW. Be sure to keep up with Bret through his website, www.bretmellenberndtracing.com , to keep up with all the latest press releases and result updates.
